A highly motivated individual tends to engage in an upward comparison, and usually assume himself as better or equal to the ‘best person’. Studies have shown that if given a chance, people choose to make an upward comparison instead of a downward one. On the other hand, when the person is not happy and is demotivated, that person usually engages in downward comparison in order to feel better about himself.
