To redeem the past and to transform every 'It was' into an 'I wanted it thus!' – that alone do I call redemption!

Friedrich Nietzsche
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (/ˈniːtʃə/ German: [ˈfʁiːdʁɪç ˈvɪlhɛlm ˈniːtʃə]; 15 October 1844 – 25 August 1900) was a German philosopher, cultural critic, poet, philologist, and Latin and Greek scholar whose work has exerted a profound influence on Western philosophy and modern intellectual history. He began his career as a classical philologist before turning to philosophy. He became the youngest ever to hold the Chair of Classical Philology at the University of Basel in 1869, at the age of 24. Nietzsche resigned in 1879 due to health problems that plagued him most of his life, and he completed much of his core writing in the following decade. In 1889, at age 44, he suffered a collapse and a complete loss of his mental faculties. He lived his remaining years in the care of his mother (until her death in 1897), and then with his sister Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche, and died in 1900. Nietzsche's body of work touched widely on art, philology, history, religion, tragedy, culture, and science, and drew early inspiration from figures such as Schopenhauer, Wagner, and Goethe. His writing spans philosophical polemics, poetry, cultural criticism, and fiction while displaying a fondness for aphorism and irony. Some prominent elements of his philosophy include his radical critique of truth in favor of perspectivism; his genealogical critique of religion and Christian morality, and his related theory of master–slave morality; his aesthetic affirmation of existence in response to the "death of God" and the profound crisis of nihilism; his notion of the Apollonian and Dionysian; and his characterization of the human subject as the expression of competing wills, collectively understood as the will to power. In his later work, he developed influential concepts such as the Übermensch and the doctrine of eternal return, and became increasingly preoccupied with the creative powers of the individual to overcome social, cultural, and moral contexts in pursuit of new values and aesthetic healt
I dance after you, I follow wherever your traces linger. Where are you? Give me your hand! Or only one finger.
Of all that is written, I love only what a person has written with his blood. Write with blood, and you will find that blood is spirit… He that writes with blood and proverbs does not want to be read, but learned by heart. In the mountains the shortest way is from peak to peak, but for that route…
I rebel against the translation of reality into a morality: therefore I abhor Christianity with a deadly hatred.
Ultimately, it is the desire, not the desired, that we love.
Of what is great one must either be silent or speak with greatness.
An educator never says what he himself thinks, but always only what he thinks of a thing in relation to the requirements of those he educates.
On this road lies the future of the highest men: to bear the greatest responsibility and not collapse under it.
I find it tasteless to be familiar.
I wish men would begin by respecting themselves: everything else follows from that.
1. Do you want to be more multifarious or simpler? 2. Do you want to become happier or more indifferent to happiness and unhappiness? 3. Do you want to become more contented with oneself or more exacting and inexorable? 4. Do you want to become softer, more yielding, more human, or more inhuman? 5.…
It is mythology to think that forces obey laws.
My purpose: to demonstrate the absolute oppressiveness of all events and the application of moral distinctions as conditioned by perspective; to demonstrate how everything praised as moral is identical in essence with everything immoral and was made possible, as in every development of morality,…
All ideals are dangerous: because they debase and brand the actual; all are poisons, but indispensable as temporary cures.
Christianity is still possible at any time. It is not tied to any dogma. It requires neither the doctrine of a personal God, nor that of sin, nor that of immortality, nor that of redemption, nor that of faith. Christianity is a way of life, not a system of beliefs. It tell us how to act, not what we…
Here is a little ideal I stumble upon once every five weeks on a wild and lonely walk, in an azure moment of sinful happiness. To spend one’s life amid delicate and absurd things; a stranger to reality; half an artist, half a bird and metaphysician; with no care for reality.
The aim is lacking; 'why?' finds no answer.
A declaration of war on the masses by higher men is needed! A doctrine is needed powerful enough to work as a breeding agent: strengthening the strong, paralyzing and destructive for the world-weary. The annihilation of the decaying races... Dominion over the earth as a means of producing the higher…
The new philosopher can arise only in conjunction with a ruling caste, as its highest spiritualization. Great politics, rule over the earth, are at hand.
The concept of 'reprehensible action' presents us with some difficult. Nothing in all that happens can be reprehensible in itself: one not dare to eliminate it completely for everything is so bound up with everything else, that to exclude one part would mean to exclude the whole. A reprehensible…
