Ari Staprans Leff (born August 8, 1994), known by his stage name Lauv, is an American singer, songwriter and record producer. His debut EP, titled Lost in the Light, was released in 2015. He is best known for his singles "I Like Me Better" and "The Other", and his single with DJ Snake, “A Different Way”. 2Early life Leff was born on August 8, 1994, in San Francisco, California to a mother of Latvian descent and a father of Russian Jewish and Polish Jewish descent. As a child, he was interested in music and took piano and viola lessons before learning how to play the guitar at the age of 11. At the age of 14, before he ever had any sort of relationship, he was obsessed with writing love songs and breakup songs. After finishing Radnor Middle School in Wayne, Pennsylvania, he attended high school, where he played in several bands and studied jazz before moving on to electronic music.Leff graduated from New York University, majoring in music technology. 2Career 32014–2016: Beginnings and debut During his college years, Leff strayed from his intensely personal song-writing style and focused on writing and producing for other artists. But during his sophomore year, he stumbled upon an illuminating interview with Paul Simon, in which Simon described his song-writing approach as a process of uncovering his innermost buried feelings.
