Memory is holographic, possessing no precise location in the brain. In theory, any neuron has the capacity to hold links to any memory via some rudimentary, free-association ‘software.’ Any brain cell can contain the memory of a childhood toy, smell of a neighborhood barbecue, or the touch of a romantic encounter. So when scientists talk about the universe being holographic, it could be construed as ‘a great mind in which we are conscious, living thought processes.’
