It wasn’t a buy-in as much as they were so happy that I had finally found a happy place in my life. Because I was so depressed. And now my mother calls me Gaga. It’s funny, when my dad had his heart surgery, that was one of the first times that I hadn’t really cared about how I looked. And I remember I just wore his sweater for two weeks. I wore his sweater and some jeans and some sneakers. I was crying, no makeup, and everyone in the hospital knew it was me. Everybody. And I just remember my dad, the first fucking thing he said to me. He opened his eyes, and he was trying to get the tube out. They took the tube out, and the first thing he said to me is, 'You look like fucking hell. What is wrong with you? Go home and put a wig on and some makeup and come back when you look like yourself.'
