Oliver Tree Nickell (born June 29, 1993) is an American-based vocalist, producer, filmmaker and professional scooter rider from Santa Cruz, California. Oliver Tree signed to Atlantic Records in 2017, after his song "When I'm Down" went viral. 2Early life Growing up in Santa Cruz, Oliver Tree began playing piano at the age of 3. By the time elementary school came around, he found himself bored with piano and took scooter lessons for the next 6 years. In middle school, Oliver began writing and recording his own music. He sang and played guitar in a rock band called Irony. However, by the time he was in high school, Oliver switched his focus on becoming a DJ and recording with the rap group Mindfuck. By the age 17 he had already performed shows opening for acts such as Skrillex, Nero, and Zeds Dead, and began releasing his own music under his middle name Tree.At age 18, Tree signed to London-based R&S Records and released his debut EP Demons.
