Mick Jagger
Sir Michael Philip Jagger, (born 26 July 1943) is an English singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer and actor who gained fame as the lead singer and one of the founder members of the Rolling Stones. Jagger's career has spanned over five decades, and he has been described as "one of the most popular and influential frontmen in the history of rock & roll". His distinctive voice and performances, along with Keith Richards' guitar style have been the trademark of the Rolling Stones throughout the band's career. Jagger gained press notoriety for his admitted drug use and romantic involvements, and was often portrayed as a countercultural figure. Jagger was born and grew up in Dartford, Kent. He studied at the London School of Economics before abandoning his academic career to join the Rolling Stones. Jagger has written most of the Rolling Stones' songs together with Richards, and they continue to collaborate musically. In the late 1960s, Jagger began acting in films (starting with Performance and Ned Kelly), to a mixed reception. He began a solo career in 1985, releasing his first album, She's the Boss, and joined the electric supergroup SuperHeavy in 2009. Relationships with the Stones' members, particularly Richards, deteriorated during the 1980s, but Jagger has always found more success with the band than with his solo and side project
I don't regret anything and I am very fond of all of it. My years with the Rolling Stones are and were a wonderful time, really. I mean, you could paint it in a very dark light: it was decadent, yeah it was quite decadent, but decadence is very enjoyable, isn't it?
I don't look at the clouds of tomorrow through the sunshine of today.
When you are young and you have a sort of close family life and stuff, it helps you to be centered for later. If you don't have a centered upbringing, I think it is much more difficult.
Everyone’s life comes to an end. And all around us, you and me, our life will come to an end. You will stop being a journalist and you will die. So what can I tell you? We’re all going to come to the same fate. So you just keep going while you can, doing what you like. So I am just the same as…
I think dwelling on the past for longer than a few months is really dull.
Don't take life too seriously and always remember: it is just a passing fad.
I don't listen to Rolling Stones albums.
I mean we all did excessive things and I had a lot of unstable moments as I’m sure everyone does in their life. Maybe it helped me that I had a very centered upbringing.
Once you get in trouble with the police, you’re always in trouble and that’s it.
Pop concerts are just gathering of people who want to have a good time and I don’t think they really have a higher meaning.
In the year 2000, no one will be arrested for drugs and that sort of thing.
If any moral responsibility exists at all for the artist, it is to turn everybody on to what he thinks and what he’s doing.
I can understand women wanting to get married, because they know that their man can always run off with another woman. And, as they’re dependent on him, they have to make it that bit harder for him to get out of his obligations. But I don’t really see why men want to get married.
‘Gimme Shelter’ was very much influenced by the violence in the US and the general uncertainty politically and so on.
People have this obsession. They want you to be like you were in 1969. They want you to, because otherwise their youth goes with you, you know. It's very selfish, but it's understandable.
You know when you're onstage you're not really keeping it all inside. You are mostly showing it out. And that's what I do for a living.
When I was about 14 or something. I used to sit in with rock bands. I wouldn't tell my parents what I was doing but I would go and sit in with these naff rock bands and do a couple of numbers and then go off and see how it went. It was like fun. So I did that. I could see I got a good reaction. I…
