Yeardley Smith
Martha Maria Yeardley Smith (; born July 3, 1964) is an American actress, voice actress, comedian and writer best known for her long-running role as Lisa Simpson on the animated television series The Simpsons. She was born in Paris and moved with her family to Washington, D.C., in 1966. As a child, Smith was often teased because of her voice. She became a professional actress in 1982 after graduating from drama school and moved to New York City in 1984, where she appeared in the Broadway production of Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing. She made her film debut in 1985's Heaven Help Us, followed by roles in The Legend of Billie Jean and Maximum Overdrive. She moved to Los Angeles in 1986 and received a recurring role in the television series Brothers. In 1987, she auditioned for a role in a series of animated shorts about the Simpson family on The Tracey Ullman Show. Smith intended to audition for the role of Bart Simpson, but the casting director felt her voice was too high, so she was assigned the role of Lisa, instead. She voiced Lisa for three seasons on The Tracey Ullman Show, and in 1989, the shorts were spun off into their own half-hour show, The Simpsons. For her work as the character, Smith received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance in 199
Gym Teacher: Tell you what, Simpson: I won't fail you if you join one of those peewee teams outside the school. Lisa: You mean those leagues where parents push their kids into vicious competition to compensate for their own failed dreams of glory?
Nelson: [beating up Bart] This is for wasting teacher's valuable time! Lisa: Lay off, guys! He's with me. Jimbo: It's a lucky coincidence you happen to be your sister's brother.
Bart: Lisa, certain difference, rivalries if you will, have come up between us. At first I thought we could talk it over like civilized people, but instead...I just ripped the head off Mr. Honeybunny! Lisa: Bart that was your cherished childhood toy.
Milhouse, knock him down if he's in your way! Jimbo, Jimbo, go for the face! Ralph Wiggum lost his shin guard! Hack the bone! Hack the bone.
That's very nice, Dad, but it's wrong for you to reward violent, competitive behavior. However, I will sit up front with you if it's a fatherly gesture of love.
Remember, Dad, all glory is fleeting.
Don't you see? Getting what you want all time will ultimately leave you unfulfilled and joyless.
THAT'S IT! I can't live in a house with this prehistoric carnivore. I am OUT OF HERE!
Homer: Are you saying you're never going to eat any animal again? What about bacon? Lisa: No. Homer: Ham? Lisa: No. Homer: Pork chops? Lisa: Dad, those all come from the same animal.
Lisa: I like school. Homer: Well, why don't you live in it then? Lisa: I would if I could.
Mr. Burns: Homer, your bravery and quick thinking have turned a potential Chernobyl into a mere Three-Mile Island. Bravo! Lisa: I think it's ironic that Dad saved the day, while a slimmer man would've fallen to his death. Bart: And I think it's ironic that, for once, Dad's butt prevented the spread…
